2025-11-19

Keep your workplace safe with these clear and concise operating procedures for electric hoists.

1. Qualified Operators Only

  • Only certified and trained personnel may operate the hoist.

  • Never allow unauthorized or untrained staff to use it.

2. Pre-Use Inspection is a Must

  • Check the wire rope, hook, and brakes for damage.

  • Test the limit switches and emergency stop button.

  • Always perform a trial lift (~10 cm off the ground) to verify the brake holds.

3. Never, Ever Overload

  • Know the weight of the load and never exceed the hoist's rated capacity.

  • This is the most critical rule for preventing catastrophic failure.

4. Secure the Load Properly

  • Ensure the load is balanced and securely rigged.

  • Use edge protectors on sharp corners to prevent sling damage.

5. Operate with Care & Awareness

  • Lift and lower smoothly to prevent load swing.

  • Keep hands clear of pinch points.

  • Never stand under a suspended load.

  • Keep the load low while moving.

6. Respond Immediately to Problems

  • If you hear unusual noises, smell burning, or see anything wrong, STOP IMMEDIATELY.

  • Report the issue to a supervisor and do not resume until it's fixed.

7. Park and Power Down Safely

  • When finished, raise the hook to a safe height.

  • Move the hoist to its designated parking spot.

  • Turn off the main power supply.

8. Maintain Good Housekeeping

  • Ensure the wire rope is spooled neatly on the drum.

  • Keep the work area clean and clear of obstacles.
